Tank Takeover (Game)
Tank Takeover is a game created during my second year of studies at IGAD and the second project I worked on as a project manager and producer.
Tank Takeover was most certainly the most interesting project I have worked on so far, for a variety of reasons.
First off, we had very little time to develop it, only 7 weeks in total, with one day of scheduled work each week according to our universities curriculum, although our team of 15 met several times more often to ensure a good final result. As such, we attempted to create a much smaller scale game than it is usual for our faculty, due to the time constraint placed on the project.
Furthermore, as this game was a local multiplayer game we would go ahead and test the design very early on with people who were unfamiliar with the game and attempted to make it as accessible as possible. During our semi-annual game release party at University we were honored with the award for both best game and best design (which I am pretty proud of really).
Oh, but it gets more interesting than that! We were actually contacted by the Dutch Game Garden to showcase the game alongside other Dutch game studios in the trade visitor area at Gamescom 2013. Those days and weeks leading up to it may have been some of the most stressful ones I’ve experienced so far, but I can honestly say that it was worth it. We met many great people and had more people play the game than I had hoped for.
So ever since we finished the game for our courses we have actually continued developing it and I have also been organizing all those activities, as well as being the contact between the team and events we entered or wish to enter in the future.
We are currently entered in the Microsoft Imagine Cup with this project as well, we will see how that turns out later this year.
